In 2015, my country's tourism industry developed steadily and rapidly. The domestic tourism market continues to grow rapidly, the inbound tourism market stabilizes and rebounds, and the outbound tourism market slows down. The number of domestic tourists was 4 billion, and the revenue was 3.42 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.5% and 13.0% respectively over the previous year; the number of inbound tourists was 134 million, and the international tourism revenue was US$113.65 billion, an increase of 4.1% and 7.8% respectively over the previous year. The number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad reached 117 million, and their tourism expenditure was US$104.5 billion, an increase of 9.0% and 16.6% respectively over the previous year; the total tourism revenue for the year was 4.13 trillion yuan, an increase of 11% year-on-year. The direct contribution of the national tourism industry to GDP throughout the year was 3.32 trillion yuan, accounting for 4.9% of the total GDP; the comprehensive contribution was 7.34 trillion yuan, accounting for 10.8% of the total GDP. Tourism directly employs 27.98 million people, and tourism directly and indirectly employs 79.11 million people, accounting for 10.2% of the total employed population in the country.
1. Domestic Tourism
——The number of domestic tourists nationwide reached 4.0 billion, up 10.5% year-on-year, including 2.81 billion urban residents and 1.19 billion rural residents.
——National domestic tourism revenue reached 3,419.51 billion yuan, up 13.0% year-on-year, of which urban residents’ tourism consumption was 2,761.09 billion yuan and rural residents’ tourism consumption was 658.42 billion yuan.
——The average domestic tourism expenditure per capita was 857.0 yuan, of which: urban residents’ average domestic tourism expenditure was 985.5 yuan, and rural residents’ average domestic tourism expenditure was 554.2 yuan.
——During the Spring Festival and National Day holidays, the country received a total of 790 million domestic tourists and realized tourism revenue of 566.13 billion yuan.
II. Inbound Tourism
——The number of inbound tourists reached 133.82 million, up 4.1% year-on-year. Among them, 25.985 million were foreigners, down 1.4%; 79.448 million were Hong Kong compatriots, up 4.4%; 22.888 million were Macao compatriots, up 10.9%; and 5.499 million were Taiwan compatriots, up 2.5%. ——The number of overnight inbound tourists reached 56.886 million, up 2.3% year-on-year. Among them, 20.286 million were foreigners, down 2.5%; 27.090 million were Hong Kong compatriots, up 4.7%; 4.666 million were Macao compatriots, up 10.9%; and 4.844 million were Taiwan compatriots, up 2.5%. ——International tourism revenue reached US$113.65 billion, up 7.8% year-on-year.
3. Outbound Tourism
——The number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad reached 117 million, an increase of 9.0% over the same period last year.
——The total number of outbound tourists organized by travel agencies was 46.435 million, an increase of 18.6%, of which: 32.3148 million people were organized to travel abroad, an increase of 30.5%; 10.1392 million people were organized to travel to Hong Kong and Macao, a decrease of 4.3%; 3.9810 million people were organized to travel to Taiwan, an increase of 5.1%.
——Outbound tourism spending was US$104.5 billion, an increase of 16.6% over the previous year.
IV. Travel Agency Scale and Operation
——As of the end of the year, there were 27,621 travel agencies included in the statistical scope nationwide, an increase of 3.6% over the end of the previous year.
--As of the end of the year, the total assets of travel agencies nationwide were 134.3 billion yuan, an increase of 2.5% over the previous year; various travel agencies achieved a total operating income of 418.9 billion yuan, an increase of 4.0% over the previous year; business taxes and surcharges were 1.61 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.9% over the previous year.
-- Throughout the year, travel agencies nationwide attracted 14.163 million inbound tourist person-times and 60.233 million person-days, up 0.4% and down 2.3% respectively over the previous year; the number of inbound tourist person-times and 65.344 million person-days received by travel agencies were 19.788 million and down 1.2% and down 4.7% respectively over the previous year.
--In the whole year, travel agencies across the country organized 136.761 million domestic overnight tourists and 435.963 million person-times, an increase of 4.3% and 4.9% respectively over the previous year; the number of domestic overnight tourists received by travel agencies was 153.355 million and 378.724 million person-times, an increase of 6.1% and 8.3% respectively over the previous year.
5. Scale and Operation of Star-rated Hotels
As of the end of the year, there were 12,327 star-rated hotels included in the star-rated hotel statistical management system nationwide, of which 10,550 completed the filling of the 2015 financial status statement and passed the review of the provincial tourism administrative department. The financial data of the 10,550 star-rated hotels showed:
--There are 10,550 star-rated hotels in China, with 1.463 million guest rooms and 2.594 million beds; the original value of fixed assets is 546.13 billion yuan; the total operating income is 210.68 billion yuan; the business tax paid is 13.65 billion yuan; the average room occupancy rate for the whole year is 54.2%.
——Among the 10,550 star-rated hotels: 789 five-star hotels, 2,375 four-star hotels, 5,098 three-star hotels, 2,197 two-star hotels and 91 one-star hotels.
-- The 2,426 state-owned star-rated hotels in China achieved a total operating income of 50.34 billion yuan in 2015 and paid 2.74 billion yuan in business tax.
——The 383 star-rated hotels invested and built by foreign investors and investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan achieved a total operating income of 20.31 billion yuan in the whole year and paid 1.13 billion yuan in business tax.
VI. Tourism Education and Training
-- By the end of the year, there were 1,518 higher tourism colleges and general colleges with tourism departments (majors) in China, 396 more than the end of the previous year, with 571,000 students, an increase of 136,000; there were 789 secondary vocational schools, 144 fewer than the end of the previous year, with 226,000 students, a decrease of 92,000. The total number of tourism colleges was 2,307, with 797,000 students.
——Throughout the year, the total number of on-the-job training sessions in the industry reached 4.754 million, an increase of 133,000 over the previous year, a growth of 2.9%.
