Approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the 2020 China Tourism Science Annual Conference was held in Beijing on April 29. The theme of the conference was "Epidemic Response and High-quality Development of the Tourism Industry", and it was co-organized by the China Tourism Academy and Ctrip Group. Luo Shugang, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. More than 4,000 representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Hubei and Wuhan, academia and industry registered to attend the meeting. The meeting was held in a "micro-site + video link" format for the entire network to watch. The morning agenda was chaired by Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy, and Ms. Jane Sun, CEO of Ctrip Group, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. Minister Luo Shugang made an opening speech. He pointed out that in the context of the continued improvement of the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control situation and the gradual recovery of economic and social order, we held the 2020 China Tourism Science Annual Conference in the form of a video conference to jointly study epidemic response and high-quality development of the tourism industry, which was very pragmatic and necessary. After the outbreak of the epidemic, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism thoroughly implemented the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on epidemic prevention and control, adjusted the focus of work as soon as possible after the outbreak of the epidemic, effectively prevented the spread of the epidemic through tourism activities, and effectively served the overall situation of epidemic prevention and control. In response to the difficulties encountered by the tourism industry, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism actively coordinated with relevant departments to launch a series of targeted policy measures to help the tourism industry overcome difficulties. As the epidemic prevention and control situation improves, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has thoroughly studied and implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on coordinating the promotion of epidemic prevention and control and resumption of work and production to help the tourism industry resume development. In this process, industry associations such as the China Tourism Association and a large number of tourism enterprises, universities such as the China Tourism Research Institute, and scientific research institutions have actively participated in the fight against the epidemic and the revitalization of the industry. At present, under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee, the people of the whole country are united and tenacious. In the normalized epidemic prevention and control, the economic and social operations are gradually returning to normal, and the production and living order is recovering faster. However, the international epidemic is still spreading rapidly, and the risk of imported infections is still relatively large, which brings new challenges to my country's epidemic prevention and control and economic development. We must have confidence, determination, and the courage to turn crises into opportunities, and use greater policy strength and more practical support measures to hedge the impact of the epidemic and promote the high-quality development of the tourism industry. At present, tourism scientific research should be carried out around "one theme" and "five considerations". "One theme" is to focus on the theme of high-quality development of the tourism industry. The "five considerations" include the current and long-term, culture and tourism, theory and application, domestic and international, and humanities and technology. In the future, the cultural and tourism administrative departments will continue to support tourism research and the China Tourism Science Annual Conference, and provide funding for everyone's research through various channels such as project funding, subject commissioning, and platform building. We also hope that experts and scholars will continue to study culture and tourism, continue to provide advice and suggestions for the tourism industry to respond to the epidemic and resume development, and provide more intellectual support for the industry!
