Following the successful holding of the 2009 and 2010 China Tourism Science Annual Conference, the 2011 China Tourism Science Annual Conference was grandly held at the Beijing Overseas Chinese Building from April 23 to 24, 2011. This year's annual conference was themed "Local Awareness and International Growth" and was hosted by the China Tourism Academy and co-organized by Ctrip.com. Du Jiang, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration, attended the annual conference and delivered a speech. Dean Dai Bin of our institute presided over the opening ceremony in the morning and gave a summary speech to the conference in the afternoon of the 23rd.

Deputy Director Du Jiang pointed out that the huge potential of my country's tourism industry is gradually breaking out, and the tourism industry has entered a "golden period" of rapid development. This good situation of my country's tourism development provides a unique soil for my country's tourism research, but there are also many problems to be studied and many laws to be grasped. It is hoped that experts and scholars at all levels will actively use scientific methods to explore solutions to some major problems and provide a greater theoretical basis for tourism practice.

Deputy Director Du Jiang said that the theme of this annual meeting is local awareness and international growth, which is a very good topic. While the industry practice is internationalized, my country's tourism research has also made great progress. Not only international scholars pay more attention to the development of China's tourism industry, but also more and more Chinese scholars go abroad to exchange, visit or study for degrees, and make more Chinese voices heard in international mainstream journals and mainstream academic conferences.

Deputy Director Du Jiang emphasized that, in practice, only by giving full play to local advantages can our tourism enterprises have a place in the international competition. In terms of tourism research, only by closely combining the practice of China's tourism development can we prevent theoretical research from falling into groaning without illness, and can we play a greater role and reflect greater value. Only by contributing our own research perspectives and academic achievements can we say that we have truly realized the internationalization of tourism development and tourism research. In a sense, only when we have made contributions to world tourism research can we be said to be a responsible big country in tourism research.

More than 100 people, including officials from relevant departments and directly affiliated units of the National Tourism Administration, representatives of the annual conference sponsors, and tourism experts from all over the country, attended the annual conference. Mr. Ding Xiaoliang, Vice President of Ctrip.com, the annual conference sponsor, delivered a speech at the annual conference. Mr. Liu Xiaojun, Director of the Policy and Regulations Department of the National Tourism Administration, announced the list of scientific research projects in 2011 and the list of the National Tourism Administration's Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards in 2010 on behalf of the National Tourism Administration and presented the awards.

Professor Zhang Lingyun, academic committee member of the China Tourism Academy and dean of the Tourism Development Research Institute of Beijing International Studies University, hosted the keynote speech session in the morning.

Thomas Paul, professor at the School of Tourism and Hotel Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, took "Trends and Hot Topics in International Tourism Research" as the theme and elaborated on hot tourism issues such as the sustainable development of the tourism industry, ocean tanker tourism, China's outbound tourism, and convention and exhibition tourism.

Professor Shi Peihua, Director of the Department of Tourism Management at Beijing Jiaotong University, took the theme of "Chinese Tourism in the High-speed Rail Era" and elaborated on the impact of the rapid development of my country's high-speed rail on the development of the tourism industry.

Professor Ma Yaofeng from the School of Tourism and Environment of Shaanxi Normal University took the theme of "Top-level Design of Chinese Tourism Research - Tourism Research and Practical Application of Space-Time Thinking" and systematically explained the importance of space-time thinking to tourism research and practical application.

Li Zhongguang, associate researcher at the China Tourism Academy, gave a report on the theme of "Theoretical Support for Improving the Quality of Development of my country's Tourism Industry" on the achievements of the China Tourism Academy's preliminary research on improving the quality of development of my country's tourism industry and the new problems it faces.

The afternoon conference was divided into two sub-forums: the integration of Chinese tourism research with the international community and Chinese tourism research in the context of building a world tourism power. In-depth and detailed round-table discussions were held on issues such as the integration of Chinese tourism with international tourism, how to better develop China's tourism industry, and how to enhance the internationalization level of Chinese tourism research.

Finally, Dean Dai Bin made a summary speech. He pointed out that China's tourism industry is in an era of mass development. We have a population of 1.3 billion and 2.1 billion domestic tourists. By the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan, the number of domestic tourists will reach 3.3 billion. We have no reason not to do it better. We need to seize the opportunities of the times and serve the needs of mass tourism in order to live up to history and the people. Whether it is international research or local research, it needs to advance and retreat with the tourism industry and be closely linked to the tourism industry. Domestic scholars need to have a broader international mind. For the development of today's society and even the evolution of human civilization on a larger scale, we have a responsibility and need to clarify why we do research. At the same time, we need to master the research methods of international consensus in order to comprehensively improve the internationalization level of my country's tourism research. Finally, he emphasized that we need to treat young tourism scholars well. The Yangtze River's back waves push the front waves. Doing a good job in echelon construction is to care about our future.

On the morning of April 24, the conference held a seminar on the application of lean thinking in the modern tourism service industry. Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy, and Fan Min, CEO and President of Ctrip.com, delivered speeches. The guests attending the meeting focused on the theoretical system of lean management thinking. In particular, there was a lively discussion on the successful experience of using lean management ideas in Ctrip.
