In the first half of 2018, the national tourism consumption demand was strong, the whole-region tourism focused on a better life, the integration and innovation of tourism with culture, creativity and technology attracted much attention, and the trend of quality improvement and performance improvement became more and more apparent. Domestic tourism grew steadily, the inbound tourism market was stable with a slight decline, and the outbound tourism market developed steadily. The number of domestic tourists reached 2.826 billion, an increase of 11.4% over the same period last year; the total number of inbound and outbound tourists reached 141 million, an increase of 6.9% over the same period last year;
1. Domestic tourist arrivals increased by 11.4% in the first half of the year, and the red tourism market was active
According to the results of the domestic tourism sampling survey, in the first half of the year, the number of domestic tourists reached 2.826 billion, an increase of 11.4% over the same period last year. Among them, urban residents reached 1.997 billion, an increase of 13.7%; rural residents reached 829 million, an increase of 6.3%. Domestic tourism revenue reached 2.45 trillion yuan, an increase of 12.5% over the same period last year. Among them, urban residents spent 1.95 trillion yuan, an increase of 13.7%; rural residents spent 0.50 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.3%.
According to the red tourism information reporting system, 18 key cities for reporting red tourism information and 436 classic red tourism scenic spots that reported data received a total of 484 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 4.83% on a comparable basis, equivalent to 17.13% of the number of domestic tourists, and realized tourism revenue of 252.498 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.73% on a comparable basis, equivalent to 10.32% of domestic tourism revenue.
2. International tourism revenue in the first half of the year reached US$61.8 billion, and the number of foreign inbound tourists and inbound overnight tourists both exceeded 4.0%
1. Foreigners’ spending on tourism in China has the fastest growth rate
In the first half of the year, international tourism revenue was US$61.8 billion, up 2.8% year-on-year. Among them, foreigners spent US$35.4 billion in China, up 4.6%; Hong Kong compatriots spent US$14.2 billion in the mainland, down 2.5%; Macao compatriots spent US$4.2 billion in the mainland, up 4.2%; Taiwan compatriots spent US$7.9 billion in the mainland, up 4.2%.
(II) Negative growth in Hong Kong’s basic market
In the first half of the year, the number of inbound tourists reached 69.23 million, down 0.4% from the same period last year. Among them, 14.82 million were foreigners, up 4.0%; 39.08 million were Hong Kong compatriots, down 2.7%; 12.33 million were Macao compatriots, up 1.1%; and 3 million were Taiwan compatriots, up 4.1%. In terms of the mode of entry, the number of inbound tourists was 3.3% by ship, 17.1% by plane, 0.8% by train, 22.5% by car, and 56.2% by foot. During the same period, the number of inbound overnight tourists reached 30.72 million, up 2.0% from the same period last year. Among them, 11.44 million were foreigners, up 4.4%; 13.88 million were Hong Kong compatriots, down 0.8%; 2.71 million were Macao compatriots, up 4.9%; and 2.70 million were Taiwan compatriots, up 4.1%.
3. Asian tourists account for 76.7% of inbound foreign tourists
In the first half of the year, the number of inbound foreign tourists reached 23.77 million (Note 1), of which 76.7% were from Asia, 8.0% from America, 12.1% from Europe, 1.9% from Oceania, 1.3% from Africa, and 0.0% from other countries. Among them, by age, 3.1% were under 14 years old, 13.9% were between 15 and 24 years old, 50.3% were between 25 and 44 years old, 28.3% were between 45 and 64 years old, and 4.4% were over 65 years old; by gender, 60.1% were male and 39.9% were female.
In the first half of the year, the top 17 countries in my country's major source markets, ranked by number of inbound visitors, are as follows (Note 2): Myanmar, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Russia, Mongolia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Canada, India, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
3. The number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad increased by 15.0% in the first half of the year
In the first half of the year, the number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad reached 71.31 million, an increase of 15.0% over the same period last year.
4. Residents' willingness to travel continues to rise, and industrial prosperity declines slightly
The overall travel willingness of residents in the first and second quarters was 83.0% and 84.8% respectively, a year-on-year increase of 1 percentage point and 3.7 percentage points respectively. In the first half of the year, my country's tourism consumption and investment remained strong, but there were signs of slowing down. The Comprehensive Tourism Economic Operation Index (CTA-TEP) in the first and second quarters was 119.11 and 115.93 respectively, an increase of 3.11 points and a decrease respectively from the same period last year. 2.73 points. During the same period, the tourism industry maintained its operation in a "relatively prosperous" range. In the first and second quarters, the tourism industry prosperity index was 130.81 and 128.05 respectively, declining year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter.
5. The quality of tourism services continues to improve steadily
The comprehensive index of tourism economic operation quality in the first and second quarters was 77.21 and 76.86, respectively, up 2.90 points and 0.83 points from the same period last year. The indicators of tourism public services, industry services and development environment quality continued to improve, up 0.5, 1.2 and 0.6 points from the same period last year. In the first half of the year, the national tourism quality supervision and tourist complaint index reached 74.80, basically the same as the same period last year.
