On May 15, 2012, the launch ceremony of the China Tourism Dictionary was held at the Shanghai Galaxy Hotel. Shao Qiwei, Director of the National Tourism Administration, and Zhao Wen, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, attended the launch ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Research Institute. Hu Dawei, Vice President of Shanghai Century Publishing Co., Ltd., Professor Yang Weiwu, Vice President of the Education Branch of the China Tourism Association, and Chen Liming, Senior Vice President of Jinjiang International Group, spoke highly of the publication of the Tourism Dictionary from different perspectives. Shao Qiwei said in his speech that adhering to the combination of theory and practice is the core idea of Marxist dialectical materialism. Using scientific theory to guide tourism practice and developing tourism theory in innovative practice is a valuable experience in the development of my country's tourism industry. Organizing and compiling a systematic and comprehensive reference book and striving to scientifically explain the basic concepts and basic phenomena in tourism practice is an inevitable need to achieve the two major strategic goals of the tourism industry, and is also an important basic work for the formulation of the Tourism Law. It is hoped that this large-scale tourism reference book with Chinese characteristics can open a new chapter in the deep integration of tourism theory research and industrial practice.

Shao Qiwei said that compiling and publishing the "China Tourism Dictionary" is one of the major theoretical foundation projects of my country's tourism. The Dictionary is the joint product of tourism government, industry, academia and research circles. It is authoritative and generally represents the level of understanding of basic concepts in the field of tourism in China's tourism and related academic circles. The Dictionary is the foundation of tourism theory construction and has a fundamental nature. It clarifies several theoretical disputes and misunderstandings in tourism studies and will become the basic basis for the construction and development of tourism theory. The Dictionary is an important carrier that reflects the development practice of China's tourism industry, and is also an important carrier for showing the achievements and experience of China's tourism industry development and improving its international discourse power. Dai Bin announced the start of the launch ceremony and briefly introduced the background and process of the compilation of the "China Tourism Dictionary". He pointed out that the compilation of the "China Tourism Dictionary" is not only the product of industrial development, theoretical construction, and the accumulation of the theoretical community to a certain extent, but also a major theoretical foundation project that the National Tourism Administration attaches great importance to and mobilizes national forces to do. Its smooth compilation and publication is inseparable from the leadership and promotion of China's tourism decision makers. In April 2009, after discussion at the National Tourism Administration Director's Office, the compilation of the "China Tourism Dictionary" was officially launched, and the China Tourism Research Institute was responsible for the specific organization and compilation tasks as a provincial and ministerial key project. After receiving the task, the Institute immediately included it in the Institute's key work, set up a research group led by the Dean to coordinate and deal with major issues of the "China Tourism Dictionary", and set up a special dictionary compilation office to handle the daily affairs of the "China Tourism Dictionary"; relying on the academic members of the Institute to form a dictionary expert committee, and appointed Professor Liu Deqian as a special consultant to control the quality of the entire process of the "China Tourism Dictionary"; set up more than 20 sub-project research groups, which were responsible for the compilation of relevant entries, and concentrated the strength of the national tourism academic community to focus on key research. The "Chinese Tourism Dictionary" consists of six parts: preface, general notes, glossary, main text, appendix, and index. It contains 3,086 entries with a total of more than 1.7 million words. The preface was written by the editor-in-chief of the book, Shao Qiwei, Director of the National Tourism Administration. It is the first large-scale tourism reference book in my country. It is innovative, authoritative, practice-oriented and has an international perspective, filling the gap in the basic academic projects of international and domestic tourism.

At the launch ceremony, Director Shao Qiwei presented the China Tourism Dictionary to Vice Mayor Zhao Wen, and then the two leaders presented books to specially invited readers from government, industry and academia. Yu Minliang, Chairman of Jinjiang International Group, Tang Lan, Vice President of Ctrip.com, Tang Kemin, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Dictionary Publishing House, and Hu Dawei, Yang Weiwu, Chen Liming and others accepted the gift books.

About 100 representatives from relevant departments of the National Tourism Administration, China Tourism Academy, Shanghai Dictionary Publishing House, Shanghai Municipal Tourism Bureau and major news media organizations attended the launch ceremony.
