I. Development of China’s Tourism Industry in 2015
In 2015, my country's tourism industry developed steadily and rapidly. The domestic tourism market continues to grow rapidly, the inbound tourism market stabilizes and rebounds, and the outbound tourism market slows down. The number of domestic tourists was 4 billion, and domestic tourism revenue was 3.42 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5% and 13.0% respectively; the number of inbound tourists was 134 million, and international tourism revenue was US$113.65 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%. and 7.8%; Chinese citizens made 117 million outbound trips, spending US$104.5 billion on tourism, a year-on-year increase of 9.0% and 16.6% respectively; the total tourism revenue for the year was 4.13 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11%. The direct contribution of the national tourism industry to GDP throughout the year was 3.32 trillion yuan, accounting for 4.88% of the total GDP; the comprehensive contribution was 7.34 trillion yuan, accounting for 10.8% of the total GDP. Tourism directly employs 27.98 million people, and tourism directly and indirectly employs 79.11 million people, accounting for 10.2% of the total employed population in the country.
1. Domestic Tourism
——The number of domestic tourists nationwide reached 4 billion, an increase of 10.5% over the previous year, including 2.81 billion urban residents and 1.19 billion rural residents.
——National domestic tourism revenue reached RMB 3,419.505 billion, up 13.1% year-on-year, of which urban residents’ tourism consumption was RMB 2,761.09 billion and rural residents’ tourism consumption was RMB 658.415 billion.
——The average domestic tourism expenditure per capita was 857 yuan, of which: urban residents’ average domestic tourism expenditure was 985 yuan, and rural residents’ average domestic tourism expenditure was 554 yuan.
——During the two "Golden Weeks" of the Spring Festival and National Day, the country received a total of 787 million domestic tourists and realized tourism revenue of 566.13 billion yuan.
2. Inbound Tourism
——The number of inbound tourists reached 134 million, up 4.1% year-on-year, including 25.99 million foreigners, down 1.4%; 79.45 million Hong Kong compatriots, up 4.4%; 22.89 million Macao compatriots, up 10.9%; and 5.5 million Taiwan compatriots, up 2.5%.
-- The number of inbound overnight tourists reached 56.89 million, up 2.3% year-on-year, including 20.29 million foreigners, down 2.5%; 27.09 million Hong Kong compatriots, up 4.7%; 4.67 million Macao compatriots, up 10.9%; and 4.84 million Taiwan compatriots, up 2.5%.
——International tourism revenue was US$113.65 billion.
3. Outbound Tourism
——The number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad reached 117 million, an increase of 9.0% over the same period last year.
——Outbound tourism spending was US$104.5 billion.
II. Completion of major indicators of tourism industry during the 12th Five-Year Plan
During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the domestic tourism market continued to grow rapidly, the growth of the inbound tourism market slowed down, and the outbound tourism market maintained rapid growth. The tourism industry fully achieved the development goals set in the 12th Five-Year Plan.
By the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", the number of domestic tourists was 4 billion, and the domestic tourism revenue was 3.42 trillion yuan, achieving 121% and 163% of the expected goals respectively; the number of inbound tourists was 134 million, and the number of overnight stays was 56.89 million, achieving respectively 102% and 100% of the expected target, achieving international tourism revenue of 113.65 billion US dollars; the number of Chinese citizens traveling abroad reached 117 million, completing 133% of the expected target; the total tourism revenue for the year was 4.13 trillion yuan, achieving 10% of the expected target 165%. The direct contribution of the national tourism industry to GDP throughout the year was 3.32 trillion yuan, accounting for 4.88% of the total GDP, exceeding the expected target of 4.5%; the comprehensive contribution was 7.34 trillion yuan, accounting for 10.8% of the total GDP. Tourism directly employed 27.98 million people, completing 193% of the expected target; tourism directly and indirectly employed 79.11 million people, accounting for 10.2% of the total employed population in the country (Table 1).
