On January 6, 2012, the "2011 National Tourist Satisfaction Survey Report Release and Urban Tourism Quality Improvement Strategy Seminar" was held in Chengdu, hosted by the China Tourism Academy and Chengdu Municipal People's Government, and undertaken by Chengdu Tourism Bureau and People's Daily Tourism Channel. Xu Xingguo, Deputy Secretary-General of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, Deng Gongli, Deputy Secretary-General of Chengdu Municipal People's Government, Jia Yuying, Deputy Mayor of Chengde Municipal People's Government, Yang Shizhang, Deputy Secretary-General of Guang'an Municipal People's Government, Liu Qi, Director of Chongqing Municipal Tourism Bureau, An Jinming, Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Tourism Development Committee, Yin Dayong, Deputy Director of Tianjin Municipal Tourism Bureau, Bai Guoxin, Director of Chengdu Municipal Tourism Bureau, and He Yudong, Deputy Director, and more than 30 leaders from various tourism city governments and tourism administrative departments attended the seminar. Professor Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy, attended the seminar and gave a keynote speech.
Also attending the seminar were specially invited experts: Professor Li Tianyuan, member of the Academic Committee of China Tourism Academy and professor of Tourism Department of Nankai University, Professor Zhang Lingyun, member of the Academic Committee of China Tourism Academy and vice dean of the School of Tourism of Beijing Union University, Professor Dai Xuefeng, deputy director of the Tourism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Associate Researcher Yang Honghao, head of the Industry Institute of China Tourism Academy and relevant members of the National Tourist Satisfaction Survey project team, as well as representatives from media organizations such as Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily Online, China Tourism News, Xinhuanet, Sohu Travel Channel, and Sichuan Tourism Information Center.
The seminar was divided into three parts: the release of the research results of the 2011 National Tourist Satisfaction Survey Report; the announcement of the satisfaction rankings of 50 sample cities in the fourth quarter and the whole year of 2011; representatives of typical tourist cities exchanged experiences on improving tourist satisfaction and discussed strategies for improving urban tourism quality.
First, Deputy Secretary-General Xu Xingguo delivered a speech on behalf of the Chengdu Municipal People's Government. He said that the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government attached great importance to the evaluation of tourist satisfaction and warmly welcomed the holding of this seminar in Chengdu. President Dai Bin made a special speech on the national tourist satisfaction situation with the theme of "Guided by the national strategy, adhering to the humanistic concept and civilian perspective, and steadily improving the city image in the era of mass tourism". In his speech, he emphasized that making millions of ordinary tourists more satisfied is an inevitable requirement in the development stage of mass tourism and a concrete manifestation of the concept of governing the country in the tourism field in the new era. After three years and 12 quarters of hard and meticulous work, all sectors of society, especially local party committees and governments, have gradually become rational in the special work of tourist satisfaction and have created a number of experiences worth promoting. He also pointed out that satisfying millions of tourists is a national tourism strategy and a long-term task, which requires us to take a more scientific attitude, more comprehensive coordination, and more patient and meticulous efforts to persevere.
Subsequently, Associate Researcher Yang Honghao released the research results of the 2011 National Tourist Satisfaction Survey Report and announced the satisfaction rankings of 50 sample cities in the fourth quarter and the whole year of 2011. The survey showed that the national tourist satisfaction index remained at a "satisfied" level of more than 80 points in the fourth quarter of 2011, and was at a "basic satisfaction" level of 78.61 for the whole year. The quality of tourism supply and tourists' actual experience improved throughout the year, the satisfaction with urban environment and facilities remained at a relatively high level, the improvement in industry service satisfaction was relatively obvious, and the satisfaction with public services was still relatively low and improved slowly.
The "Tourist Satisfaction and Urban Tourism Quality Improvement Strategy Seminar" in the afternoon was divided into two forums, chaired by Dean Dai Bin and Professor Li Tianyuan respectively. Participating leaders and experts conducted a round-table discussion focusing on tourist satisfaction: service quality and city image improvement, and experiences and discussions on improving tourist satisfaction. Vice Mayor Jia Yuying, Director Liu Qi, Deputy Secretary-General Deng Gongli, and Deputy Secretary-General Yang Shizhang made keynote speeches successively. Deputy Director An Jinming, Deputy Director Yin Dayong, Director Huang Yongjiu of Nanning Tourism Bureau, Deputy Director Luo Wanfei of Qingdao Tourism Bureau, Liu Yanmin, deputy director of Shenyang Municipal Tourism Bureau, and others participated in the roundtable discussion.
