On April 9, 2013, the press conference for the 2013 first quarter tourism economic operation and tourist satisfaction survey report was held in the People's Daily studio, hosted by the China Tourism Academy and co-organized by the People's Daily Tourism Channel and Travel Satellite TV. Professor Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy, Professor Zhang Lingyun, Vice President of the School of Tourism of Beijing Union University, Gou Zhipeng, General Manager of the Public Affairs Department of Qunar.com, and Associate Researcher Li Zhongguang, Director of the Industry Institute of the China Tourism Academy, attended the press conference. Representatives from media organizations such as People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, China Radio International, People's Daily Overseas Edition, China Tourism News, Economic Daily, China Tourism Network, CCTV.com, and China.com also attended the press conference.

Dai Bin first delivered a keynote speech. He said that in the first quarter of 2013, many exciting things happened in the tourism industry: the number of people visiting during the Golden Week exceeded 200 million; the National Tourism and Leisure Outline was released, which clearly stated that paid vacations should be basically implemented by 2020; the new head of state attended the opening ceremony of the "China Tourism Year" in Russia during his first visit abroad, and proposed that tourism is an important indicator for improving people's living standards; the Boao Forum for Asia, which just ended, released the China Medical Tourism Health Pilot Demonstration Zone, and Sansha tourism is just around the corner, etc. In short, the first quarter started well, the entire economy was running smoothly, the institutional environment was more stable, tourism was becoming more and more normalized, and the development space of the tourism industry would be broader. He also pointed out that due to the deterioration of the ecological environment such as haze, dust, and water pollution, the national tourist satisfaction in the first quarter dropped significantly, and was at the "basic satisfaction" level, which needed to be highly valued by relevant departments. We still have a long way to go to build a modern service industry that the people are more satisfied with. It is gratifying that local governments, represented by Yan'an, pay more and more attention to tourists' satisfaction, and departments at all levels respond to tourists' complaints more and more promptly. The complaint index has reached the passing level of 65 points for the first time. Tourists can feel every effort of the government. Looking forward to the second quarter, he said that due to the growing consumption capacity and consumption habits of national tourism, due to our government's positive response and protection of the people's right to travel, as well as the efforts made, and the promotion from various capital markets and technological progress, the upcoming second quarter is full of confidence like spring. He also wished that tourists can travel happily, not only to see the beauty of China during the journey, but also to share each other's happiness.

Subsequently, Dr. Chen Xu from the Institute of Industry of our institute released the analysis report of tourism economic operation in the first quarter of 2013 and the trend forecast report in the first half of the year. The report shows that the fundamentals of tourism economic operation are generally stable, and the development performance, mass market confidence and entrepreneur prospect expectations are relatively high. However, it is also facing the pressure of low prosperity level of inbound tourism, accommodation, catering, especially high-star hotel catering industry, as well as possible market risks such as public health events. The basic orientation of tourism macro policies in the first half of the year should be to convey market confidence to both domestic and foreign countries.

Li Zhongguang released the national tourist satisfaction survey report for the first quarter of 2013. The report shows that the national tourist satisfaction index in the first quarter of 2013 was 77.62, which was at the "basic satisfaction" level, and showed a significant decline. The main reason is that domestic and inbound tourists' satisfaction with the air quality such as smog and dust for many consecutive days and the ecological environment such as water quality deterioration has dropped significantly. The report believes that in the era of mass tourism dominated by individual tourists, self-service and leisure, more and more tourists are targeting non-traditional tourism resources, and satisfaction evaluation is closely related to the overall environment of the destination. Tourism departments and governments at all levels should make more efforts to let tourists see the beauty of China in real itineraries.

Finally, the guests held a roundtable discussion on the above research results and jointly answered questions from the media and netizens. Also attending the press conference were members of the relevant research team of our institute.
