On the afternoon of June 3, the unveiling ceremony of the Taiwan Tourism Research Base of the China Tourism Research Institute was held at Xiamen University. Dean Dai Bin of our institute, Director Guo Hengming of the Fujian Provincial Tourism Bureau, Professor Li Jianfa, Vice President of Xiamen University, Deputy Director Yan Qi of the Xiamen Municipal Tourism Bureau, Director Xu Liling of the Resource Planning Department of the Xiamen Municipal Tourism Bureau, Professor Lin Zhiyang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Management of Xiamen University, Professor Chen Wuyuan, Deputy Director of the Social Science Department of Xiamen University, and Professor Deng Kongzhao, Vice Dean of the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University, attended the ceremony. Experts from the base and nearly 200 teachers and students from the Department of Tourism of Xiamen University also attended the unveiling ceremony.

President Dai Bin put forward his expectations and requirements for the future development of the base. He pointed out that the Taiwan Tourism Research Base should, based on the overall needs of the country's work on Taiwan and the specific requirements of the tourism field, actively provide suggestions for the design of the country's tourism policy towards Taiwan, the evaluation of the development process, and the prediction and judgment of major events, while strengthening the research on cross-strait tourism cooperation and development.

The establishment of the Taiwan Tourism Research Base provides a high-level activity platform for the development of tourism disciplines at Xiamen University. The base will take advantage of the special geographical advantages of Xiamen as a tourism center city on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait and a comprehensive experimental reform zone for tourism to Taiwan, as well as the overall academic resource advantages of Xiamen University, and focus on conducting research on the tourism market and management across the Taiwan Strait, tourism cooperation and development across the Taiwan Strait, tourism investment across the Taiwan Strait, and tourism enterprises across the Taiwan Strait, and promote cooperation between the tourism academic community and the industry across the Taiwan Strait; cultivate young backbone teachers, doctoral students, and master students in Taiwan tourism and cross-strait tourism; strive to build it into a think tank for relevant national, provincial, and municipal institutions to make cross-strait tourism decisions and a technical support platform for the tourism industry to develop cross-strait tourism; build the research base into an important academic highland, exchange center, data center, and important think tank for Taiwan tourism and cross-strait tourism research, and promote the healthy, standardized, rapid, and orderly development of cross-strait tourism. Before the unveiling ceremony, Dean Dai Bin also gave an academic report entitled "National '12th Five-Year Plan' Tourism Development Strategy and Academic Mission" to Xiamen University teachers and students.
